Here at Greenroom Academy we believe that every learner deserves to thrive in the academic skills essential for life. The mainstream educational environment can often overwhelm students and undermine their confidence with pressures of peer comparison and a heavy focus on exams; Greenroom Academy provides a far more personalised and supportive approach, which enables learners to move at a pace that is appropriate to them and is optimal for their learning journey.
Our one-to-one or small group tuition, run by qualified and experienced teachers, offers students the opportunity to access core learning in Maths and English, with the option to work towards Functional Skills, GCSE or A Level qualifications if desired. Although the thought of exams can sometimes be a trigger for anxiety for many students, we believe that our gentle and individualised approach can build students' confidence and allow them to reach their full potential, in a safe and nurturing space.
Adjacent to the playfield and within clear sight of the pavilion, the village allotment forms a central part of this alternative educational experience, offering a rich, hands-on learning environment. Here, students can quite literally get their hands dirty, engaging in practical activities that bring learning to life. With expert guidance, they learn how to prepare the soil, understand what to plant and when, and even test soil conditions such as acidity and alkalinity. This real-world application of knowledge nurtures patience, responsibility, and a sense of achievement. As students witness the gradual rewards of their efforts -seeds growing into healthy plants, they begin to understand the value of time, care, and persistence. In much the same way, this process mirrors their own personal development, helping them to build confidence, discover strengths, and cultivate effective coping strategies in a supportive and meaningful setting.
The Greenroom Academy is based in the small rural Northamptonshire village of Flore, a setting that has been deliberately chosen to support a different approach to learning. The provision operates from a pavilion situated within a large, spacious playing field, lined with trees and hosting a myriad of wildlife within its hedged boundaries. This environment offers far more than a traditional classroom: the expansive grounds include a football pitch, a pétanque piste, outdoor gym equipment, a basketball court, and a skateboard half-pipe, all of which create opportunities for movement, exploration, and engagement throughout the day.
The ability to run, laugh, shout, and release energy in a natural space supports emotional regulation and wellbeing, while the calming and restorative qualities of nature help to reset attitudes towards learning. By bringing the outside into everyday educational experiences, The Greenroom Academy aims to foster a renewed sense of curiosity, resilience, and connection, helping young people build a healthier relationship with learning in a way that is both holistic and transformative.
For some students, just entering a learning environment in itself is a huge challenge. We provide a welcoming, gentle and nurturing learning space where we are able to move at the learner's individual pace, prioritising building back confidence and resilience where this might have been damaged or lost entirely. We track progress of each individual, not solely through a data-focused, numerical approach, but through self-reflection, discussion with parents, and qualitative assessment of their social behaviours and relationships.
We also encourage interaction with other students, where appropriate and where a learner feels confident to do so. Our programmes run with a maximum capacity of 4 students per day, meaning that no student is ever overwhelmed by the noise and character range sometimes encountered in mainstream schools.
At Greenroom Academy, we are always thinking of new ways to engage students, based on their ambitions and passions. We are lucky enough to be based in a setting where students are not confined by four walls but are instead encouraged to step outside, experience freedom, and feel the positive impact of being in a safe, open environment. Our tutors have a range of interests that students can benefit from: Music, Tai Chi, Hairdressing, Running, Animal Care, History and Science.
